Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, 48-1-1-(34) retained his WBC middleweight title Saturday night by scoring a spectacular sixth round ko over the brave but outgunned Amir “King” Khan, 31-4-(19) at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas,Nevada, USA.
As expected Khan’s hands speed and movement caused the bigger, stronger champion all sorts of problem’s as early as the opening round as Khan landed a few solid right hands. Round two was much the same as his speed and movement caused Alvarez to miss the target frequently.
By the fourth round, though, Alvarez stepped up the pace and changed tactics by targeting the body to slow Khan down. That change in strategy paid off in the sixth round when a massive right hand took Khan clean out after 2.37.
Speaking immediately after the fight in the ring a victorious Alvarez said: “He is a fast fighter, and I knew things would be complicated in beginning, but I knew I would get him as the fight went on.
“Someone that comes in to box gives you more trouble and someone that comes right in is a little easier to fight.”
