WBC light middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has dismissed rumours that his training camp at Big Bear, California is not going to plan and that he is on schedule to make the contracted 152lbs weight ahead of his ‘super fight’ against pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14.
Floyd Mayweather Snr, the father and trainer of the world’s best boxer made a statement earlier this week implying that he had good inside knowledge that all was not well at camp Alvarez but the unbeaten Mexican insists that is not the case.
“I’m not worried about the weight at all,” said Alvarez.” Everything is fine. The weight is fine. Everything is on schedule. Training camp has been great. We are ready for Mayweather’s style. We’ve had great sparring partners who are sparring similar to the style of Mayweather, who like to throw one or two punches and then they move. We are prepared for that. I’m very focused on achieving a great victory for everyone in Mexico.”
At the 30 day pre weigh in as per WBC rules, Alvarez weighed in at 166lbs, leaving him a month to shed the required 14lbs.
