McWilliams Arroyo extended his pro record to 10 – 1 (9 KOs) in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico last night when his opponent, Gilberto Mendoza, failed to come off his stool to start the fourth round of a scheduled six.
Arroyo, a former world amateur champion at flyweight, has now won seven bouts in a row since his shock four round points reverse to Takashi Okada in 2010.
His brother McJoe was due to appear on the bill but his fight was scrapped at the eleventh hour because Kadel Martinez failed a medical.
On the undercard, undefeated flyweight prospect Jonathan Gonzalez halted Samuel Gutierrez at 1.01 of the fifth round.
The victory takes Gonzalez’ ledger to 8 – 0 (7 KOs).
Ramesis Gil upset previously unbeaten Luis Joel Gonzalez by unanimous decision after six sessions.
