Contender Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez today scaled 114 ¾ pounds at the seven day pre weigh in required by the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission for his bout against former world champion Giovani Segura next Saturday, August 17, at the International Ballroom of El San Juan Resort and Casino in Isla Verde, Carolina, Puerto Rico.
PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) present, in association with Top Rank to be broadcast on DIRECTV.
Bomba Gonzalez (13-0, 11 KOs), the #7 ranked by the WBO in the flyweight division, weighed almost three pounds less than the 117.6 maximum in this last pre weigh, held at the Jose “Cheo” Aponte Gym in Caguas. Gonzalez and Segura (29-3-1, 25 KOs) will fight for the WBO Latino flyweight title in a bout scheduled to 10 rounds.
“The weight I got today shows the work we are doing for Giovani Segura. We are focused in this fight and how important is for my career”, Gonzalez said after the pre weigh in. “We are expecting to be in 115 or 116 pounds but we make 114 and that is good because we made that weight comfortable and with all my meals”.
Gonzalez, who is the WBO Youth flyweight champion, trained today with his father and trainer Luis Gonzalez, his manager Orlando Piñero and the two time world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez. The undefeated fighter worked in shadow boxing, some rounds of pads, hit the punching bag and jumped the rope.
