Following the tragic news yesterday that popular matchmaker and manager Dean Powell died yesterday(Sept 10), many famous names from the boxing world paid tribute to a man widely regarded as one of the most influential people in British boxing.

Promoter Frank Warren: “All of us are deeply saddened and shocked by the loss of our very close friend and colleague. Dean was a valued and popular member of our team and within the sport of boxing.”
Former world champion Amir Khan wrote on Twitter: “Sorry to hear the loss of Dean Powell. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was close to team Khan and trained me for 2 fights. You will be missed.”
Former world champion Joe Calzaghe: “Shocked and saddened to hear the news of Dean Powell. Was in my corner for many of my big fights. RIP Dean.”

One of the World’s best Matchmakers with a high standing in the Sport. I and the Board have lost a great friend and colleague and he will be greatly missed throughout the world of Boxing. I send my deepest and sincere condolences to his loved ones. Dean will be greatly missed.

Also, my best wishes are with Frank Warren and everybody else at Queensberry Promotions who I know were extremely close to Dean and appreciated the magnificent job that he did for so long.
Dean was so generous to me at various stages of my boxing apprenticeship and in a sport where some prefer to close doors, Dean would always keep his open for everyone.
He was a friend on both a personal and professional level and to have had many opportunities to work alongside a great man such as Dean fills me with immense pride.
British boxing has lost one of its most popular characters and the void left by Dean will be felt by the entire fight community.
