European light heavyweight champ Juergen Braehmer, 40-2-(31), scored an impressive second round knockout over Tony Averlant, 18-8-2-(4), at the Alsterdorf Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany on Saturday.
A body shot did the damage after 2.36 of the second session.
The win now makes Braehmer the mandatory contender for Nathan Cleverly’s WBO light heavyweight title. Braehmer said after the fight he wants Cleverly next.
On the undercard Argentine light middleweight Guido Nicolas Pitto, 18-1-(7), scored a shock 12 round split decision win over the previously unbeaten Jack Culcay, 14-1- (10). The scores were 115-113, 116-112 for Pitto and 115-113 for Culcay.
Another upset on the card saw light heavyweight Oleksandr Cherviak defeat Dustin Dirks. Dirks was rocked in round two and was and barely made it through round three. Dirks tried to punch his way back into the fight but he was out od gas and stopped after 0 :51 of round 10.
