Carlos Canizales Crowned Champion In Japan

Carlos Canizales became the new WBA Light Flyweight champion after defeating Reiya Konishi by unanimous decision in an entertaining fight that took place in Kobe, Japan, on Sunday.

The Venezuelan traveled to the Asian country and defeated Konishi by scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 114-113. Cañizales took advantage of the first few rounds of the fight to mark distance and connected with straight right hands to force Konishi onto the back foot.

In the third round, the South American connected with a right to Konishi’s face, which sent him to the canvas, and attacked him with everything he had, but the Japanese boxer managed to survive the round. As the fight progressed, the local fighter began to improve considerably and to put a lot of pressure on the Venezuelan. Konishi had his best moments in the middle of the fight with constant punching to the body while Cañizales regrouped.

In the eighth round Canizales went back on the offensive and resumed his pace to finish the fight strongly. “CCC”, as Cañizales is nicknamed, closed the fight very well to secure victory

Now, Cañizales has 20 wins, no losses, 1 draw and 16 knockouts, while Konishi’s falls to 15 wins, 1 loss and 5 knockouts.
