Jerry Glick reporting: It’s been fourteen months since Jr. Welterweight Chris Algieri stepped into a boxing ring for pay. At the time he ran his unbeaten record to 10-0 (5 KOs) with a unanimous decision over James Hope at Madison Square Garden under a double header featuring Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa. His re-entry was an explosive one.
On Thursday night, St. Patrick’s Day, Algieri made his triumphant return under the Star Boxing banner to face a tough little Philly fighter named Julias Edmonds, 7-11 (0 KOs). After dominating him for three rounds the Long Island former kick boxing champion finally wore his foe down enough to move in for the kill, stopping him at 2:24 of round four of eight scheduled at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, NY.
