Cotto Claims Another World Title/Vargas Retains WBC Crown Against Rioss

Miguel Cotto, 41-5-(33),claimed the vacant WBO junior middleweight crown on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California when he battered Yoshihiro Kamegai, 27-4-2-(24), over 12 one sided rounds.

After 12 one sided rounds the three judges scored the bout 120-108,118-110 and 119-109. After two years away the 36 year-old Cotto performed pretty well despite some pretty crude fouling.

In the co main event WBC super bantamweight champ Rey Vargas, 30-0-(22) also scored an easy victory by unanimously out-pointing Ronny Rios, 28-2-(13), over 12 rounds.

Despite local fighter Rios starting fast Vargas, from Mexico landed the more solid shots, especially to the body. In the end the body shots and the combinations were enough for Rios to retain his title by scores of 118-11 twice and 115-113.
