Coyle Crowned Prizefighter Champ

Unbeaten Belfast based boxer Johnny Coyle won the Welterweight Prizefighter title Saturday night after Paddy Gallagher in the final.

Coyle decked Gallgher twice before claiming the £32,000 prize. Gallagher, was handed a second chance on the night after losing his opening bout to Erick Ochieng, who was then forced to withdraw after collapsing with exhaustion.



Quarter final results

Erick Ochieng, 15-4-(4) out-pointed Paddy Gallagher, 4-1-(3),the three round Prizefighter distance but collapsed and was taken out of the ring on a stretcher.. Gallagher was then reinstated to take part in the first semi final. It is not known yet why Ochieng collapsed.


In one of the other quarter finals Mark Douglas won a sometimes scrappy three round decision over Dean Byrne, one of the favourites.


In the third quarter final Sam Eggington stopped Johnny Garton in the second round to book his semi final spot.


In the fourth and final quarter final Johnny Coyle out-pointed Welshman Jason Cook

Paddy Gallagher bombed out Mark Douglas after just 0.31 of the opening round.
