By Marc Livitz at ringside in Dallas, TX: Terence Crawford scored a sixth round knockout victory over Alejandro Sanabria in the evening’s co-main event at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Saturday.
Crawford dictated the pace throughout much of the opening round with his quick-snapping left jab. Sanabria connected with a left hook to the chin to begin the second, yet Terence remained the aggressor and did his best to keep his Mexico City opponent on the back foot. Crawford remained upright and began to take advantage of Sanabria’s tendency to lean forward. The Omaha, Nebraska native almost had his Mexican foe out on his feet in round three. Alejandro tried to get Terence to walk right into a decisive shot, but the strategy wasn’t working for him. His face began to redden a bit and Crawford was simply the quicker of the two. He connected with various combinations to the head and body of "Flakita" Sanabria, yet the Mexican fighter showed toughness and sheer guts.
Terence picked his shots more often in rounds four and five. He almost had Alejandro out again by way of a convincing left hook and a follow-up straight right. Finally and inside of ten seconds into the sixth, Crawford sealed the deal with a perfectly timed left hook directly to the cheekbone of Sanabria, who thereafter tumbled boots over head to the canvas. He struggled to his feet, yet referee Laurence Cole waved the fight to a conclusive halt. Terence Crawford now holds the NABO Lightweight title and maintains his perfect record of (21(16)-0), while Alejandro Sanabria suffered his second career defeat and fell to (34(25)-2-1).
