Crolla And Mathews Ends All Square


It looks like Anthony Crolla and Derry Mathews will have to face each other for a third time after battling to a thrilling 12 round draw at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday.

 

 

Mathews, who stopped Crolla inside six round in April 2012, seemed to coasting to victory after pilong up the points early on but Crolla found the strength take the fight to Mathews in the second half of the fight resulting a hard fought draw.

 

It was indeed a close run fight and Mathews did stop Crolla from marching forward in the ninth when he landed a cracking series of punches. In the end though one judge saw the fight even at 115-115, while the other two judges made the fight 115-113 to each of the fighters in a thrilling battle.

 

On the same card Rocky Fielding made a successful first defence of his English super-middleweight title by scoring a sixth round stoppage win against against Wayne Reed.

The Liverpool fighter floored his Reed three times during the bout and had him in trouble on a number of other occasions.
