Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, insists everyone will be ‘amazed’ by the young Mexican’s speed when he defends his WBC light middleweight title against pound for pound king Floyd Maywearther Jr on September 14.
The 23 three year-old undefeated champ faces the biggest test of his young career at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and De La Hoya says Canelo’s youth will also be a factor in this fight.
"Canelo has his youth on his side, but his biggest asset is his intelligence. Everybody will also be amazed by his speed,” said De La Hoya.”
Oscar also gave an invaluable tip to Canelo, which is to use his jab to keep Mayweather’s counter punching at bay.
Speaking about the fight during a recent media work out Canelo himself stressed: “I’m young, but I already have experience. I’ve learned a lot in the last couple of years, Mayweather has been in my same position when he was younger!"
