WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire has explained why he turned down the opportunity to face Abner Mares.
Mare’s promoter Golden Boy Promotion reportedly offered Donaire $3 million to face Mares but the ‘Filipino Flash’ said the contract did not explain full details of the fight.
Speaking to Ring Tv, Donaire said: "From what I’m hearing, there is really no proper venue, no proper date, no later than this, no later than that, that’s not good enough”.
A 90 day postponement clause in the contract was just one of the problems Donaire was not pleased with
“A 90-day postponement? I mean, come on. I’m in this phase where if I can fight four times a year, then I’ll fight four times a year,” added Donaire.
The main obstacle,though could be that Donaire is promoted by Top Rank, who will not want to co promote an event with Golden Boy.
