Enriquez Stops Blackshear in 7  


By Reginald Murrell at ringside: Bobby D. Presents from the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego California hosted a entertaining five card bouts. In the main event a border war between unbeaten Kenia Enriquez of Tijuana Mexico, 11-0 (6 KO’s) and Jolene Blackshear of San Diego California, 8-5 (3 KO’s) became a one sided affair.

 

Both fighters began the opening stanza getting to know each other, Blackshear pumping her jab in an attempt to find the distance of her taller opponent. In the first round neither fighter landed a significant shot.

 

As the fight continued Enriquez, looking as though she knew that her busier opponent couldn’t hurt her began to apply pressure and find her target. Working from the outside, Enriquez took control of the fight catching Blackshear with a left hook, straight right combination that hurt Blackshear.

 

Blackshear continue to pump an ineffective jab trying to find an opportunity to get inside of Enriquez. Blackshear gets caught with a left hook that puts her in reverse, from the steady pressure of Enriquez; Blackshear is fighting on her heels.

 

In the 7th round Enriquez catch Blackshear with a barrage of punches that does damage to Blackshear and force the referee to stop the contest.

Undercard results:

In the Co-Main Event local resident David Barragan, San Diego California, 8-0-1 (3KO’s) beat Eddie Cordova, Clearfield, Utah, 4-6-1 (1KO). Barragan working behind short, crisp shot was able to entertain his legion of fans that came out to root him on.

 

Cordova put up a valiant effort, but Barragan was to sharp for him on this night. Barragan’s punches were too fast and accurate for Cordova. Barragan gets the win with judges scores of 40-36, 40-36, 39-37

 

Another local favorite Adrian Vargas, National City California, 8-0-1 (6KO’s) returned to the ring with a welcoming chant from his many fans in the venue. His opponent Luis Cervantes, Cathedral City, California, 7-7-3 (2KO’s) came out at the bell applying pressure forcing Vargas fight going backward.

 

In the second both fighter traded leather, but Vargas got the better of the exchanges. Cervantes left eye began to show some swelling from the hard right hand of Vargas.

 

In the third Cervantes eye began to swell and close forcing the referee to halt the fight and call for the ringside doctor. At the doctor’s advice the fight was stopped at 1:29 seconds of the 3rd round.

 

Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana, San Diego California, 7-2-2 (1KO) put on a show in defeating Susan Reno, New York, New York, 1-2-1. Quintana, another local fan favorite was never in danger of losing this fight. She pressured Reno for 6 rounds, working combinations to the body and head. The work rate of Quintana was too much for Reno to handle.

 

Quintana won a unanimous decision with scores of 60-54 on all three judges card.

 

In the opening bout, Jarrod Tennant, Los Angeles California, 3-0 looked impressive in his win over Mario Angeles, San Diego California, 1-5-1. Tennant speed and athleticism was too much for Angeles to handle. Scores of 40-35 on all three judges card.
