Former WBO Cruiserweight world champion Enzo Maccarinelli from Swansea Wales, has been confirmed as an opponent for WBA Light Heavyweight titlist Jurgen Brahmer.

Maccarinelli who is on a 3 fight winning streak may be a surprise choice of opponent for Brahmer, given that he doesn’t appear in the latest set of rankings on the WBA’s website. However it should be noted that January’s rankings are yet to be published.

The fight will take place on April 5 in the Stadthalle in Rostock, Germany and champion Brahmer isn’t concerned with the height and reach advantages possessed by the challenger:

“Size doesn’t necessarily matter. The belt stays in Germany!”, Maccarinelli on the other hand appeared grateful for the shot "This is a great opportunity for me and I will bring the title to Wales.”

Biebut Shumenov remains the WBA Super champion at 175lbs and is still pursuing big money unification fights with the likes of Adonis Stevenson and Bernard Hopkins.

Brahmer was scheduled to face Welshman and former Maccarinelli stablemate Nathan Cleverly in 2011 but pulled out with a virus just one week before the fight.
