By Danny Winterbottom: Martin Murray has reacted angrily to comments made by WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, in an interview the 38-year-old Argentine gave to Ring TV, when he labelled the St Helens man a ‘dirty fighter’ following their clash on April 27.

Martinez, 38, retained his title by unanimous decision, 115-112 on all cards, outdoors at the Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield football stadium in Buenos Aires, but was dropped by the former British champion in the eighth round and looked fortunate to hold onto his belt in his first fight in his home country since he was an unknown in 2002.

In the piece with Anson Wainwright of Ring TV Martinez is quoted as saying, in reference to Murray and their fight:

“He was like I expected. He had his chance but he was dirty, he hit me several times with his knee on purpose, knee against knee and I don’t believe he deserves a rematch. I will never give him a rematch.”

“He’s a d***head, a bad loser” Murray exclusively told SecondsOut.com tonight. “He won the fight on the cards but when I saw him in the hotel on the Monday after the fight he couldn’t even look me in the eye because he knew he got out thought and out fought.”

“Now to say the things he has said what does that tell you?”

In his previous title defence, a win over Mexico’s Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr in September 2012, “Maravilla” suffered a knee injury that required surgery and he claims, in the bout with Murray, that the Englishman deliberately targeted it.

“You can watch the fight tape a 1000 times and you will never see me hitting his knee” said Murray in his defence.

“I would go back to Argentina and fight him again but it is Martinez that doesn’t it”
