By Tri Nguyen: This Saturday’s fight at the Du Burns Arena in Baltimore, MD will feature two Mid-Atlantic Middleweight up and comers fighting for respect.
Scott “Cujo” Sigmon (8-1) and Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow(19-2) headline a card called “Who’s The Man?” Both fighters predict a war, and based on their personal history, it may turn into a shootout. Following Sigmon’s previous fight, a victory over Ariel Espina, he immediately called out Nicklow, proclaiming “Boxing is full of trash and I’m gonna clean it up!”
Scott Sigmon has grand plans for his future in boxing. His goals include fights with some of the bigger names in the Middleweight class, including Daniel Jacobs. As he puts it, "Right now I’m takingon C-level competition. I want to take on the A-level guys. Nicklow is a C-minus." But he realizes that he must build his record and name recognition before he can be mentioned in the same breath as true contenders.
Sigmon says “I have a special talent… I’m not worried about these club fighters.”
As for his immediate future, how does he plan to beat Nicklow? “I’m coming forward and throwing a lot of punches. I’m not taking a step back.”
Jessie Nicklow is moving up in weight and will take on, Sigmon, who has campaigned as high as Light Heavyweight in recent fights. He acknowledges that Sigmon will be the naturally bigger man but expects to be in the best shape of his life. How does he see the fight unfolding? “I will come forward, throw a lot of punches, and back him up.” He has worked extra hard for this bout because of the blatant disrespect he feels from Sigmon. Winning this bout would be a big step towards his goal of fighting for a title belt in the near future, most likely at Jr. Middleweight.
