Irishman Carl Frampton extended his unbeaten record to 14-0 and also claimed the IBF inter-continental super-bantamweight title against Raul Hirales at the Nottingham FM Arena on Saturday night.
The previously unbeaten, Hirales, from Mexico, was expected to give Frampton all sorts of trouble but in the end Frampton ran out a clear 12 round winner on all three judges scorecards by a wide margin of 120-108 and 119-109 (twice)
Frampton’s left hook was the weapon of choice and the one that brought him the most success in what was generally a messy fight
Speaking to Sky Sports after his victory Frampton said: "It was easily the toughest fight so far, but I only lost one round. "It’s the best I’ve ever boxed as a pro. I hit him cleanly but he’s a great fighter, a warrior. He came to keep his ranking, but I can do anything, forward or back."
It now looks like Frampton could be steered towards a European title shot against Kiko Martinez in September.
