Francis Pulls Out Of British Title Fight

Former European champion Dean Francis has been forced to pull out of his vacant British light heavyweight title with Bob Ajisafe on November 8, after suffering a freak injury in the gym.

Francis suffered a cut hand at the Bristol Boxing Gym last week and the wound later became infected.

Speaking to Bristolpost.co.uk Francis’ promoter Chris Sanigar said: "This is a massive blow for Dean.

"It’s a freak injury and everybody is gutted for him. You expect cuts in sparring or hand injuries, because they are part and parcel of being a professional fighter.

"But I’ve never heard of a fight being called of because of a blood infection. He has been incredibly unlucky."

Sanigar added: "Dean cut himself in training and everything seemed to be fine to begin with. But, within 48 hours, his left arm had swelled up and the infection then found its way into his glands.

"We packed him off to the hospital and he is now back home and recovering."
