Froch Close To Two Fight Bute Deal

By Clive Bernath: Former WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch is reportedly close to signing a two fight deal to challenge IBF titleholder Lucian Bute in Montreal.

According to reports it appears that only one fight is guaranteed, presumably if Froch wins the rematch clause will come into operation. If I’m honest defeating the talented and undefeated Bute,29-0-(24), in his home city of Montreal will prove to be a very tough task. Of course Froch is capable of winning but after facing seven, yes SEVEN genuine world class opponents in the last four years I feel Froch has earned a well earned rest in order to allow his body to recover both mentally and physically.

Again, whilst I’m being honest, even a peak Froch would have his work cut out against a talent such as Bute.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is quoted by the press Association as saying he is contemplating a the Bute deal but also a big fight in Froch’s home city of Nottingham: “It’s just whether we do that [agree to the two-fight deal with Bute] or we do a big fight in Nottingham at the end of April, a homecoming. Which route do we go for?”

Regardless of what route Froch takes one thing is certain- in an age where many so called boxing superstars hand pick far in superior lighter punching fighters with padded out records, Froch has earned his money the hard way. In the last four years the 34 year-old granite chinned Brit has fought Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Mikkel Kessler,Arthur Abraham, Glen Johnson and Andre Ward.

Froch may have lost two of those fights on points but when he finally hangs up his gloves to call time on his career he can rightly be proud of his achievements. Win lose, or draw if he does eventually decide to face Bute, Froch is a true warrior and a perfect role model to an young boy or girl thinking of taking up the sport of boxing.
