“Swift” Danny Garcia, 33-0-(19), scored a seventh round tko win over Samuel Vargas, 25-3-1-(13), at the Liacouras Center at Temple University on Saturday night and immediately turned his attention to a March fight with Keith “One Time” Thurman .
Garcia dumped Vargas on the deck chopping right hand to the chin at the end of the second round.
Vargas recovered well and was as brave as they come but Garcia was just too sharp, too strong and too good.
Garcia rocked Vargas in the sixth round with a right hand as Vargas was backed up to the ropes
The end came after 2.17 of the seventh round when Garcia pinned him to the ropes and and rained in a couple of heavy punches until referee Gary Rosato stopped the action.
After the fight Garcia turned his attention to world welterweight champion Keith Thurman, who was at ringside, and let rip at his rival by telling he is next.
"I just had to tell Keith he’s next. I’m gonna whoop him. There’s not much more to say,” said Garcia.
“[Thurman] got what he asked for, and now he’s going to face a real big dog. March 4 fans can expect what they always get from me. It’s going to be fireworks. I’m a Philly champion. I have the heart of a champion, and I’m coming to win and unify titles.”
In response Thurman: "Danny can talk whatever he wants, and Angel can say whatever he wants,” said Thurman, a 27-year-old native of Clearwater, Florida. “They can talk smack all day, but I know for a fact that everyone who faces Keith Thurman will tell you that I’m the hardest puncher they’ve faced.”
