Former IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale, 29-2-(15), made the 160lbs middleweight limit at the second attempt ahead of his clash with fellow Australian Garth Wood, 12-3-1-(8), at the Hordern Pavillion in Moore Park, New South Wales, Australia on Wednesday.
After two trips to the scale Geale eventually weighed 160lbs while Wood weighed in at 159lbs.
Wood is understandably the underdog in this clash but feels extremely confident of pulling off an upset: “The role I’m playing is the underdog and that’s exactly how I want it,” said Wood at the weigh in. “The runs are on the board with what Geale has done, 300 amateur fights and legitimate world championships, but I’m very confident with what I have in front of me.”
Geale responded by stating: “Every fighter is dangerous and always dangerous in their own way. Garth has got that puncher’s ability and he has got that strength. I just can’t relax with him. I know if I use my skills and box the way I know I can then I’ll be okay. But he can definitely be dangerous.”
