Golovkin Takes Out Ishida In Monte Carlo

Kazakhstan born puncher Gennady Golovkin took just three rounds to take out Nobuhiro Ishida from Japan to successfully defend his WBA and IBO middleweight titles in Monte Carlo on Saturday night.

Golovkin’s power came into play during the second round when he caught Ishida with two big rights and an uppercut, at the same time cutting him under the right eye.

Ishida tried to stand his ground but Golovkin was just too strong and it was only a matter of time before Golovkin sent him crashing to the canvas with an overhand right. Ishida’s head hit the bottom rope and he was worryingly motionless for quite a while before he was able to get to his feet.

In a battle of unbeaten super middleweights, Edwin Rodriguez (23-0, 15 KOs) scored a 10 round decision over Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna (19-1, 13 KOs). In a close Rodriguez was deducted a point in round eight for a low blow and another point for rabbit punching in round nine, however Rodriguez floored Maderna at the end of round nine. The scores were 96-92 twice and 95-92.

In the other “Super 4″ light heavyweight bout, Denis Grachev (13-1-1, 8 KOs) won a 10 round split decision over former WBO champion Zsolt Erdei (33-1, 18 KOs). The 38-year-old Erdei controlled the fight Grachev but Grachev upped the pressure and came on over the second half of the bout. The Scores were 96-94 twice for Grachev and 96-94 for Erdei.

Rodriguez will now face Grachev in the “Super 4″ final on July 13.

Golovkin improved his record to 26-0-(23).
