Local super bantamweight Jesus Gonzalez made a dream professional debut at the Musikfest Cafe at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA on Thursday night when he knocked out Phillipsburg’s Marquis Pierce in the opening round.
A powerful uppercut took out Pierce after 2.07 of the opener of the scheduled four rounder.
"That uppercut has always been in my repertoire," said Gonzalez told the Express Times.
The official headlined bout involving unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz (19-0), and opponent, Rayford Johnson (8-12), failed to happen after Johnson failed the pre fight medical
To add more disappointed to what was a disappointing night of boxing light middleweights Jovan Francois, 6-0 and Angel Figueroa of Lorain, Ohio, didn’t come off because Figueroa went to jail on Wednesday night.
