By Clive Bernath: Anything can happen in the unpredictable world of professional boxing and on Saturday night that is exactly what happened. Just four months ago the often delusional 41 year-old looked to have been well and truly knocked into retirement when fellow Olympic medallist David Price took him apart after just 1.22 of the opening round. If someone had said back then that Harrison would revive his career once again and Price would get knocked out in his fight one would have thought they should be dragged off to the funny farm. But thats exactly what, Hot prospect David Price was stopped inside two rounds by American Tony Thompson whilst Harrison surprised everyone yet again by winning the latest Prizefighter tournament at the York Hall in London.
Harrison got off to a flying start when his sharp punching stunned his first opponent Claus Bertino into submission after just 0.33. Then a rematch with Irishman Martin Rogan followed and again Harrison’s sharp boxing skills proved enough to score a shutout win in the three rounder.
The final saw Audley come up against Derric Rossy, who to be fair looked exhausted after scoring tough split decision wins over tournament favourite and fellow American Travis Walker and Londoner Ian Lewison. The aforementioned wars proved too much for Rossy and Audley stopped his man in the second round.
Once again Audley lives to fight another day. Quite where he goes from here remains to be seen but one thing is for certain, Audley will be telling anyone that will listen that ‘its my destiny to become heavyweight champ’ I can hear all his pre rehearsed patter now. ‘They don’t just give away Olympic Gold medals. I’m finally focused now. That was not the real Audley you saw against David Price and David Haye. I’m now ready to fulfil my destiny and become the heavyweight champion of the world’.
Be warned the delusional one is back and I for one cannot wait to hear what comes out of his mouth next.
