Jenkins Is Light-welterweight Prizefighter Champ

By Ciaran Gibbons at ringside: Chris Jenkins from south west Wales exploded onto the public stage by winning The Prizefighter,The light welterweights 3 at the York Hall Bethnal Green,London on Saturday night (6th Jul)y.

In front of a sell out crowd Jenkins displayed his wide range of boxing skill on the way to winning the final, and he did not lose a single round.

In his quarter final fight againt tall southpaw Tony Owen from London,Jenkins launched a non stop attack from the first bell and kept the relentless pace up for the whole three rounds. Owen had no answer to Jenkins Speed and work rate.

Jenkins semi final was a totally different affair with Jenkins displaying his great boxing skills against the brave but limited Eren Arif. By the second round Arif’s face was a bloody mess as Jenkins controlled the fight with his jab and landed a wide range of power shots over the three rounds. Jenkins also displayed great defence as he avoided Arif’s desperate attack. At the final bell the crowd was on their feet and both boxers showed great respect for each other.

The final was the easiest fight of the night for Jenkins as Danny Connor from Surry had no answer for the Welshmans speed and power. Connor was going backwards from the start and could not cope with Jenkins speed and power. In the second round Jenkins planted his feet and with a series of power shots knocked Connor to the canvas and out of the fight.

Around ringside through out the night people were amazed by Jenkins dominant display and were already looking forward to watching him fight again.

A new star in boxing is born.

"I’ve had three fights in one night in England and I’ve won all three of them - I’m over the moon," Jenkins told Sky Sports.

"I know I can bang, as you’ve seen there, but I’ve got the work ethic to go with it as well."

"I’ve only done a six-round fight and a couple of fours, perhaps a couple more fights and then maybe go for the Welsh area title and then hopefully step up then."
