Lara Hopes Alvarez Fight Will Lead To Mayweather

Erislandy Lara hopes an impressive performance against Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 12, will lead to a multi million showdown Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Speaking at a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday to officially announce his bout with Alvarez, Lara,19-1-2-(12), said: “This is the fight we pushed for and this is the fight we got. Now it’s time to go to work. It’s going to be a great fight. Canelo is young and strong. I’m going to do what I do, which is box beautifully and fight if I have to, and it’s going to be a really interesting fight for the fans.

“First, I’ll be focused on Canelo Alvarez, and I’m going to handle business on July 12th. Once I get that done with Canelo hundred percent, Floyd Mayweather is who I want. But first things first, let’s take care of business.

In the meantime Alvarez, who dropped a decision to Mayweather Jr in 2013, has revealed one of the reasons he agreed to face Lara.

“I was offended on Twitter,” Alvarez said. “They said a bunch of things about me, but it doesn’t matter. I’m here to prove who I am and I’m going to win on July 12th. The fans kept asking for it, not because he’s such a great fighter, but because he was talking so much [expletive] on twitter. He offended me and he offended my character.”
