Former two weight world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (32-2, 29 KOs) stayed on course for a featherweight title challenge at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on Saturday night when he scored a ninth round stoppage win over Aldimar Silva Santos (18-4, 9 KOs).
Lopez took his time to get going but in round three he picked up the pace and rocked Santos in round three before sending him to the canvas in rounds five, seven and ninth rounds. After 1.04 of the ninth and the third knock down , referee Luis Pabon had finally seen enough and stepped in to stop Santos from taking further punishment.
On the undercard Unbeaten lightweight contender Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (22-0, 17 KOs) was just getting warmed up when opponent Alejandro Rodriguez (18-9, 10 KOs) failed to answer the bell for round six.
Another unbeaten boxer on the card was super flyweight McJoe Arroyo (12-0, 7 KOs), who won by fourth round tko when Felipe Rivas (16-11-1, 9 KOs) was pulled out by his corner team.
