Macklin to Face Geale Jerry Glick reporting: After failing to capture three different versions of the middleweight throne, Matthew "Mack the Knife" Macklin is back to face former IBF world champ Daniel Geale on May 24th. Macklin has challenged Sergio Martinez, and Felix Sturm in highly competitive fights, for their respective belts, but was unable to go past three rounds against the power punching Gennady Golovkin. In his last fight he took down a unanimous ten over previously undefeated Lamar Russ back in December, the same night that manager Anthony Catanzaro’s other star, former two time, two division, world champion, Paul Malignaggi earned himself another title shot when he defeated Zab Judah. Malignaggi will challenge IBF Welterweight champion Shawn Porter on April 19th at the DC Armory in Washington DC on a well stocked card featuring Bernard Hopkins vs Beibut Shumenov in a unification lightheavyweight title fight, and Peter Quillin defending his WBO Middleweight title against Lukas Konecny. Catanzaro could not be more pleased that Macklin, 30-5 (20 KOs), is back in the mix, and that in spite of his loss to Golovkin Mack the Knife bounced back with that win over Russ to put himself in the position to face Geale. "We just signed the deal (Monday, April 7th) for HBO," explained Catanzaro. "We were looking to match him up in a bigger fight and get the momentum going and Geale, 30-2 (16 KOs), is a former world champion. He has a very good resume’, and a win for Mack will put him in a very good position for a title fight." After his three tough losses to the best in the 160 pound division how is Macklin feeling about his chances to win here and to go on to become a world champion? "His confidence is very good," added Catanzaro.
