Marquez Announces His Retirement




Following his defeat by Efraín Esquivias two weeks ago, Rafael Márquez has decided to hang up his gloves.

 

The former two time world champion, will always be remembered as an all time great, especially for his series of extraordinary and spectacular fights against Israel Vazquez.

 

Márquez Méndez decided to retire after he underwent surgery to repair an injury to his left eye. Now he will dedicate his time to taking care of his family.

 

“I was injured during my last bout. I can’t keep fighting like this, so I’ve decided to conclude my career,” Rafa bravely and realistically commented.

 

He can look back with pride and forever cherish magnificent victories against an array of great rivals including: Tim Austin, Silence Mabuza, Ricardo Vargas, Mauricio Pastrana and Israel Vázquez.
