Marquez Suffered Fractured Cheekbone Against Esquivias

Former world champion Rafael Márquez suffered a fractured cheekbone during his ninth round tko defeat by Efrain Esquivias last Saturday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Marquez will undergo surgery to repair the injury.

“He has to retire, his reflexes aren’t the same, and he has no speed left in his legs any more. He knows he has to retire. I told him so but he replied that he will think about it. He has nothing to think about , he needs to call it a day,” urged his trainer, the famous and astute Nacho Beristain.

Rafa’s former rival, Israel Vazquez, with whom he fought four incredible fights gave his honest opinion about Marquez, stating:

“The truth is that he looked bad after the third round. I do hope he’s thinking of retiring. His legacy has come to an end. Better for Rafael to retire now healthy and proud” Vazquez insisted.
