It may not have been pretty to watch but Seth Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KOs) avenged an earlier ko loss to Johnathon Banks (29-1-1, 19 KOs), by scoring a lack luster 12 round points win at the Barclays Center in New York on Saturday night.
Mitchell decked Banks with an uppercut in round two, but Banks recovered to wobble Mitchell. This, however, was when the excitement stopped and both men resorted to survival mode. Unfortunately. Banks hurt Mitchell again in round eight could not finish the job. Banks’ tired in the late rounds allowing Mitchell to nick a 115-112, 117-109 and 114-112 points verdict on all three judges cards.
On the same card Super middleweight Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KOs) scored a majority 12 round decision win over the previously unbeaten Marco Antonio Periban (20-1, 13 KOs) to claim the vacant WBC belt title. Unlike Banks Vs Mitchell this title clash was fought at a good pace with plenty of action. Bika won a close bout by scores of 116-112, 115-113 and an even 114-114
