Omar Andres Narvaez, 39-1-2-(20), won a split 12 round decision over Felipe Orucuta, 27-2-(23), to regain his WBO super flyweight title at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday.
As the split decision verdict indicated it was a very tough and close encounter, one in which some ringside observers felt Orucuta did enough to win, especially considering his strong finish.
Orucuta, who is 10 years younger than the Argentine born champ at age 27, made a fast start but the cagy champ fought in spurts with eyecatching punches to attract the notice of the judges
At the end of 12 rounds one Judge, Bill Lerch had it 118-110 for the Mexican challenger while the other two officials Jose Roberto Torres and Rocky Young both had it 115-113 for Narvaez.
