The 2014 boxing calendar continued its slow start after the lone SecondsOut ranked fighter, Arash Usmanee, pulled out of his scheduled ten round affair with Juan Antonio Rodriguez with an injury. Rodriguez instead fought Yenifel Vicente and won an eight round majority decision, remaining unranked by SecondsOut. However, there was still a minor shift in the SecondsOut world rankings as boxing best continue to remain On the Move. Regrettably, another slow week of world class boxing approaches.
Gary Russell Jr. has been removed from the SecondsOut featherweight for failure to accept a reasonable challenge and having not fought at 126 his last two bouts. Lee Selby advanced one ranking with Russell’s exit and Alexander Miskirtchian climbed aboard into the ten spot with his majority decision over Sofiane Takoucht on January 11.
Ryo Miyazaki vacated his WBA minimumweight title after struggles to make weight. He made an ill-fated move to 108-pounds and was stopped in three rounds by Fahsan Sakkreerin. He is no longer ranked in the SecondsOut 105-pound rankings. Ganigan Lopez moved up to the number eight spot, but he too has recently fought at 108-pounds and will be monitored. Jesus Silvestre advanced to the number nine ranking. Japan’s Ryuji Hara fills the void at number ten.
SecondsOut ranked fighters in action through January 19, 2014:
On Saturday, January, 18:
At Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Jean Pascal versus Lucian Bute in a twelve round light heavyweight bout; Mike Perez versus Carlos Takam in a ten round heavyweight bout
