Price: 'Audley Helped Me Win Bronze Medal'

David Price has revealed that Audley Harrison was part of his Olympic success story.

Price, (13-0, makes the first defence of his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles against ‘A Force’ at Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday October 13 – the first ever professional clash between two British Olympians.

Harrison (28-5) won a gold medal at Sydney 2000 and Price captured a bronze eight years later in Beijing.

Price, 29, said: “I will never forget Audley calling me before the Beijing Olympics and giving me a boost which was a nice thing to do.

“I was 16 years-old when he won the Olympics, but I was never on the squad with him and the first time I met him was two years ago in Los Angeles and we got on well.”

“I used to follow his career because I was the natural successor when he turned professional and the coaches at the England set-up hoped I could go on to do what he had.

“I always used to keep a close eye on his career and wanted him to do well, and I was as disappointed as anyone when he started under-performing.

“It is strictly business now and I am not going to let him stand in my way because I want bigger and better things.”

Price is now in the final two weeks of his training camp under trainer Franny Smith at Salisbury ABC where sparring partners from Europe have been flown in.

The talent stacked 14 fight card also includes a vacant British cruiserweight title fight between Shane McPhilbin (8-3) and Jon Lewis Dickinson (11-2), Chris Edwards’ (17-14-4) British and Commonwealth flyweight title defence against local Kevin Satchell (8-0) and a British light-welterweight title eliminator between Adil Anwar (17-1) and Dale Miles (13-1).
