Promoter Frank Maloney has put together a stacked undercard for his show at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday, 23rd February, headlined by David Price’s heavyweight match up with American Tony Thompson.
Liverpool boxer Kevin Satchell, (9-0), will make the first defence of his British flyweight title against Belfast’s Luke Wilton, (13-2-1).
The second British title on the card sees Bristol’s Darren Hamilton (12-2) risk his light-welterweight crown against local boxer, Steve Williams, (13-1).
That fight has been postponed twice, and Maloney says that the British Boxing Board of Control may strip Hamilton if he pulls out for the second time.
He explained: “We hope to have a commitment from the Board that if Hamilton does pull out this time the title will be declared vacant.
“That is what we’re pushing for because this is the third time we have tried to stage the fight.
“Adil Anwar is boxing on the undercard and would be willing at short notice for a British title challenge if needed, but hopefully Darren has fully recovered from injury and will be ready.”
Satchell, 24, won the British title in October when he stopped defending champion Chris Edwards in the sixth rounds.
Wilton (13-2-1) has already sold more than 300 tickets, but Maloney says: “Kevin is Britain’s most exciting flyweight and at the end of the year he will be closing in on a world title.
“The flyweight champions are tougher than most, but it can be easier to manoeuvre them into world title positions.”
Making their comebacks are Liverpool famous boxing brothers, The Burkes.
Ex former Commonwealth lightweight champion David (26-2) hasn’t boxed since May 2005 and Stephen (10-1) who last fought almost three years ago.
An added attraction to the card also includes featuring Cuban heavyweight star Mike Perez (18-0).
