Emerging American superstar Adrien Broner will make the first defence of his WBC lightweight title against tough Welshman Gavin Rees at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on February 16.
The 23 year-old is being tipped as the man to eventually take replace Floyd Mayweather Jr as the pound for pound boxing king. The Cincinnati based boxer has won all 25 fights, 21 inside the distance and will start a heavy favorite against the former WBA light-welterweight champ.
Rees, 32, has lost just once in 39 fights, a 12th round stoppage loss to Andriy Kotelnyk in defence of his WBA title in 2008. That single loss was up at 140lbs he has never been stopped in his natural weight division and will prove a tough adversary for any fighter at lightweight. Broner has the skills to outbox Rees handily, but Rees is a tough operator and should still be standing after 12 rounds.
