Rey Vargas remains unbeaten with victory in Mexico

Rey Vargas remains unbeaten with a 8th round TKO victory over Sylvester Lopez last night at the stadio de Baseball in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Vargas, a super bantamweight who is being tipped for big things, was dropped, for the first time in his career, in the 2nd round, however the 23 year old Mexican regained his composure and forced Lopez to quit on his stool at the beginning of the 8th.

Vargas improves his perfect slate to 19-0, 15 KOs and Lopez falls to 21-7-2, 15 KOs.

Also on the card was former two time minimumweight champion Raul “Rayito” García. The hometown hero Garcia wasted little time in dispatching overmatched Arcadio Salazar in the first round.

Irma “Güerita” Sánchez, the former IBF world female champion at Flyweight, was massively upset by Jazmín “Dinamita” Ortega over 10 on the undercard. Sánchez was outworked by the surprisingly classy Ortega.

Edgar Puerta improved his record to 23-4-1, 19 KOs and defended his WBC Silver Lightweight title by stopping Manuel Castro. Official result is a TKO 4 due Casto’s corner having seen enough to pull out their man.
