Jerry Glick reporting from ringside:Golden Boy returned to the Barclays Center once again. This time a local fan favorite was in the star attraction, the very popular Sadam Ali who did not disappoint.
In a pier six brawl Ali, 146.6, and Jay Krupp, 146.4, both tasted the canvas, but it was Ali’s better skills that won the day. In a shocker, the unbeaten Brooklynite went down in round one from a left hook to the head. In this all action battle, the awkward Krupp, 17-6 (8 KOs), surprised Ali’s fans by putting up a battle to show that he wasn’t there to lose. Krupp had an awkward ability to effectively counter much of Ali’s combinations with one of his own. At times Ali looked a little tentative because of that, but he still used his superior speed to land and block what came his way on many occasions.
Ali got the point back when he dropped Krupp in the sixth frame and again in the eighth and last round to seal his win with scores of 79-72, 78-75, and 77-72 all for Ali who improved to 17-0 (10 KOs). Harvey Dock refereed.
