Segura Wins Battle Of Former Champs

Giovani Segura, 32-3-1-(28), won the battle of the former champions at the Arena Tecate in Tijuana, BCN, Mexico on Saturday by scoring a 10th round knockout over Felipe Salguero, 19-6-1-(14).

Segura decked Salguero in round four, but Salguero bravely stormed back to turn the fight into a battle that took both fighters to the limit. Salguero eventually caved in more through tiredness than anything else.

On the undercard former world champion Juan Alberto “Topo” Rosas, 39-8-(27) scored a ninth round tko win over Alejandro “Cobrita” González Jr., 22-1-2-(14). Rosas stormed out of his corner from the opening bell in bid to overwhelm his lesser experienced opponent and the tactic worked perfectly. The bantamweight clash ended with a ninth round head clash that left blood streaming out of a cut on Rosas’ forehead. The scores were 78-74, 77-75 and 80-72 for Rosas when the bout was stopped.

In a super featherweight bout Francisco Gabriel Pina won a six round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Filipino Rogelio Jun Doliguez in a huge upset. Pina decked Doliguez in round one before securing a 57-56, 59-55 twice points win.
