Shiming Crowned World Champion In Vegas/Valdez Retains Title

Zou Shiming,9-1-(2) claimed the vacant WBO flyweight title at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday night after scoring a 12 round unanimous decision win over Prasitak Phaprom, 39-2-2-(24).


In one sided fight Shiming dropped Phaprom in round two on his way to a clear 120-107, 120-107, 119-108 decision. It is the second time Shining has defeated Phaprom


On the same Top Rank Promoted card WBO featherweight champ Oscar Valdez, 22-0-(19), retained his title by scoring a highly impressive seventh round stoppage win over Hiroshige Osawa, 30-4-4-(19). Valdez put Osawa down in the fourth round Osawa bravely rose to fight back but Valdez was relentless in his pursuit of the challeneger and the fight was eventually stopped in the seventh round.


Speaking the post fight press conference Valdez said: “I’m happy, its my first step in defending my title. Hopefully 2017 is better. There are a lot of good names out there. I want to dominate this division but I’ll fight whoever.”
