Spence Dominates, Decisions Cruz in Vegas

Hard Rock: 2012 US Olympian Errol “The Truth” Spence kept his professional ledger unblemished on Friday night with a dominating performance over the always-tough Ronald Cruz. Spence utilized his superb footwork and movement to perplex Cruz throughout the contest and the prospect’s handspeed was too much for his opponent.

Cruz (20-4, 15 KOs) was game throughout the welterweight contest but Spence was far superior in every facet of the match. Though Cruz was never taken off his feet in the battle, he did absorb tons of punishment throughout and wound up losing virtually every minute of every round. In the end, Spence pitched a shutout with a ten round unanimous decision where he won via tallies of 100-90 on all three judges’ cards. The win allowed Spence to improve to 13-0 with 10 KOs.

Veteran cruiserweight BJ Flores won an eight-round unanimous decision over Anthony Smith (15-3, 10 KOs). Flores was a tad sharper throughout the encounter and coasted to scores of 80-72 on all three cards to rise to 30-1-1 with 19 KOs.

Middleweight contender Dominic Wade jumped to 16-0 (11) with a workmanlike ten round unanimous nod over Nick Brinson (16-1-2, 6 KOs). Scores were 96-94 and 97-93 (twice).

Fellow 2012 Olympian Marcus Browne (11-1, 8 KOs) tore apart Donta Woods (8-3, 7), stopping him just 91 seconds into their cruiserweight matchup.

Heavyweight prospect Gerald Washington improved to 13-0 with his tenth career knockout. He swarmed battle-tested opponent Travis Walker (39-12-1, 31 KOs) and took him out just 31 seconds into the second frame.

Cruiserweight Steve Lovett (10-0, 8 KOs) stopped Dwayne Williams (4-3, 1 KO) at 1:11 of the third; light heavyweight Tyrell Hendrix (11-4-2, 4 KOs) dropped Dennis Hasson (16-1, 6 KOs) twice in the fourth and stopped in that round at 2:59; welterweight Ryan Karl (2-0, 2 KOs) stopped Corey Muldrew (1-8) in just 61 seconds; Super middleweight Lanell Bellows (9-1-1, 6 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Jas Phipps (4-6, 1 KO) – scores were 59-55 and 58-56 (twice); super middleweight John Magda (8-0, 7 KOs) knocked out Taneal Goyco (6-8, 3 KOs) at 2:24 of the fourth; middleweight Caleb Plant (4-0, 1 KO) won a unanimous four-round decision over Michael Noriega (4-5, 4 KOs) via tallies of 40-36 (thrice); and welterweight Ladarius Miller (4-0, 1 KO) unanimously decisioned Jacinto Quintana (2-4, 2 KOs) over four rounds.
