The World Boxing Council has nominated Bermane “B. Ware” Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) and Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (36-3-0, 31 KO’s), to fight for the WBC heavyweight title. The bout will take place in Mexico, no date or venue has yet been confirmed.
Undefeated champion Vitali Klitschko was named WBC Emeritus champion after deciding to dedicate his immediate attention toward a political career in Ukraine.
“This will be an event that will draw the attention of fans and press from Mexico and the world and it will bring great benefit to the economy of Tabasco.
"This will be the third heavyweight championship fight to be held in Latin America and the second in Mexico, so this is an historic event in the boxing world” said the WBC media and statics director, Victor Cota.
To put the finishing touches to the this extravaganza, promoters Don King and Pepe Gomez will travel to Tabasco for discussions with the local authorities.
Stiverne defeated Chris Arreola to win the WBC Silver title last April 27, 2013 at the Citizens Bank Arena.
Arreola defeated Seth Mitchell by first round knockot to earn a crack at the vacant title.
