Former WBF Light Heavyweight Champion Tamas Kovacs, 27-1 (16), will headline a show in his native Slovakia this Saturday, June 11, when he takes on Georgian Giorgi Beroshvili, 26-11-2 (18), for the vacant WBF Euroasia title at the Sport Hall in Trencin.
“Tomi Kid” Kovacs (38) won the WBF International Light Heavyweight title in October 2009, and then captured the world title less than two months later. For various reasons he never defended his world title, and in 2013 he lost a challenge for the WBA crown when Beibut Shumenov got the better of him in San Antonio, Texas.
Since then he ventured up to Cruiserweight, where he won the WBF International title in 2014, but he is now back at Light Heavy and ready to launch another attack at world honors. Winning the WBF Eurasia title could be the first step towards a crack at reigning WBF world champion Tony Averlant from France.
Giorgi Beroshvili is only 24 years old, but has amazingly fought thirty-nine times since turning professional only four years ago. Having faced top names such as Tyron Zeuge, Martin Murray and Max Bursak, this will be his fifth championship fight in just over two years.
The Tamas Kovacs vs. Giorgi Beroshvili WBF Eurasia Light Heavyweight title fight on June 11 in Trencin, Slovakia will headline a show promoted by Profibox-Promotion, and will be preceded by a strong undercard featuring local talents in interesting match-ups.
