Torres Marin Upsets Micsko In Sturovo

Hungary-based Cuban Ericles Torres Marin put himself on the map on Friday night when he won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ International Middleweight title at the Pristav Pri Kompe in Sturovo, Slovakia.

In a clash of southpaws, Torres Marin beat Hungarian favorite Sandor Micsko by unanimous 10 round decision, as he proved too tricky and determined. The older man by 10 years, looked rejuvenated as he resurrected a career that otherwise seemed to be going nowhere.

After ten rounds of boxing, judges Laszlo Fejes, Tamas Sasvari and Mikulas Bencik scored the fight 98-91, 96-93 and 96-95 respectively, all for Torres Marin. Referee was Bela Florian.

Now on a three-fight winning-streak, Torres Marin (39), who was born in Santa Clara, Cuba but now lives in Bonyhad, Hungary, improves to 12-8-1 (6). This was his third title-opportunity, after coming up short in IBA and IBF challenges in the past.

A former WBF International and WBC regional champion at Middleweight, and Hungarian national champion at both Middleweight and Super Middleweight, 29-year-old Micsko sees his professional record drop to 28-12-2 (22).

Headlining an open-air 12 bout show free to the public, the fight was promoted by Tibor Feja and his Fight Night Show Promotions in association with Erika Paszterko of L.P. Promotions, and televised live by Hungary DigiSport.
