Undisputed world super middleweight champion Andre Ward has undergone surgery on his injured right shoulder that ultimately postponed his title defense against Kelly Pavlik.
The fight had originally been scheduled for January 26 in Los Angeles but was postponed until March when Ward hurt his shoulder whilst sparring.
After resting his shoulder the injury did not heal, Ward got a second opinion from San Francisco Giants orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Dillingham, who discovered a small tear in his shoulder capsule.
Dillingham operated on Ward last Friday and says the surgery went well. Ward is expected to begin rehab later this week.
