Warren Promotes Double Title Showdown On May 21

Promoter Frank Warren announced on Thursday that he will stage a massive boxing event at the O2 Arena in London on May 21 when Welshman Nathan Cleverly challenges German Jurgen Braehmer for WBO light-heavywieght title and bitter rivals James DeGale and George Grove square off for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight crowns.

Both fights will share equal top billing but Olympic champion Degale facing off against former Amateur clubmate and bitter Groves will be the fight that grabs domestic interest.

DeGale will arguably start favourite after impressively taking out Paul Smith to claim the British title recently while Groves struggled somewhat before stopping Scotsman Kenny Anderson in defence of his Commonwealth title.

Speaking at Thursday’s press conference Warren said; "This will be one of the best shows that I have ever put together,

"The super-middleweight division has always had a special place in the hearts of the British public.

"I promoted some great champions in Joe Calzaghe, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Nigel Benn, but I believe DeGale can be better than all of them.

"This fight against Groves will be an absolute war, though, and it’s a massive test.
Warren added; "Let’s not forget Cleverly and Braehmer as well because that’s one hell of a fight too.

"Cleverly is one of our best prospects and this is his chance to make a massive statement.

"And who knows, one day he might end up fighting James DeGale or George Groves up at light-heavy."
