The WBC disciplinary committee has voted to impose a sanction against the participants involved in the scandal that disrupted the fight between Italians Giacobbe Fragomeni and Silvio Branco held in Riva del Garda, Italy, on December 15th, 2012.
1. Enzo Branco, father of Silvio and Gianluca Branco, should not be allowed access for a year to any professional boxing match in Italy and Europe. If this command is not complied with, then the promoter and appropriate boxing commission who accepts his admission, will be punished.
2. The organization has decided to apply a respectful but strong wake-up call to the authorities and the police in the town of Riva del Garda, by virtue of having failed to intervene to impose order.
3. The World Boxing Council requests further research to test the behavior of Gianluca Branco in the ring. If conclusively proved it will be strictly punished, and the EBU will be asked for their participation to make it official.
The WBC considers such outrageous acts as a blow that can be highly damaging to professional boxing, and won’t in any way tolerate such actions, which hurt the public and the greatness as well as integrity of the sport of boxing.
