The WBC has ruled that Marco Antonio Rubio and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will fight for the organization’s Interim Middleweight Title.
They are respectively one and two in the rankings.
The WBC will wait until both fighters complete the bouts they have already signed up for.
Free negotiations will start the Monday after their bouts. In case one of them loses, the WBC will name another challenger.
Full WBC champion Sergio Martinez, who’s recovering from surgery, last week visited Mexico. He has been notified about this decision, which he has accepted.
WBC’s #3, Italian Domenico Espada, will face #4 Mexican Gilberto Ramirez in final elimination to become the mandatory challenger of the Interim Champion.
